Around 1922, the Broitman family fled their small villiage in Southern Russia (Savran, Ukraine), and were smuggled into Romania. From there, they wished to travel to the US (1924). However , the quota had closed, and they wound up going to Canada. Below is one of the two passports that remain from their trip - one for Abraham Broitman, and one for Chaika Broitman and the children. The stamps on one of the documents detail the journey that Chaika Broitman and her children made - from Bucarest, Romania to Serbia to Italy, and finally to Halifax, Canada more than a month later. In 1927, they entered the US at Niagra Falls. |
