Goldner Documents

Several Goldner family documents from the late 19th and early 20th century have survived to today, including Meyer Golder's army exemption and Marian and Sarah Goldner's birth certificate extracts. One of documents that has survived is the original dowry agreement between Meyer and Minna Goldner! There are links to larger versions of the documents, as well as partial translations.

Dowry Agreement

The undersigned, Leib ben Faives, a merchant with a residence in the village of Sculeni in the Branista district, Iasi county. I hereby declare this contract regarding the marriage of my daughter Ciorna Mindla Faives to my future son-in-law Meir bin Goldner (a merchant with a residence in Bivolari). This wedding has the consent of the girl.

I shall give a dowry with the following things:

    7000 Lei
    • 3500 in Cash
    • 3500 in Clothing and Jewelry

Before us, the judges of the court of Iasi, group 3 of noteries, was presented today in our commision Feb 8. Mr. Leib bin Faives (Merchant, Ciorna Mindla Faives, from Sculari, and Mr. Meir bin Goldin, merchant, from Bivolari, from this county, whose identities have been confirmed through witnesses by us, and known to us, namely: D. Ionescu - no profession - from Iasi: "I state that I wrote/edited the document about the parents of Ciorna" and Mosi bin Yitzak: "I declare that the people present (mentioned above)that everything in the dowry is identified based on tax stamps on the merchendise.

Reading the document of the dowry word by word, in front of the judges, we can state, based on the questions we ask, that the document is based on free choice, with the consent of all parties.

To confirm again based on the numbers that this document is legal.

Based on Article 17 from the military recruitment statutes, and under
medical cirtification from the doctor of the counsel, it is declared that:

Goldin Marcu Meir, the son of Samuel and Hana, born in 1868 in the village of Bivolari in Iasi and residing in Bivolari. Blond hair, brown eyebrows, normal nose and mouth, slightly long chin and fair skin. 1m 62cm.

Medical exemption based on defected curves of legs or feet

Approved by the counsel December 7, 1889.

From the year 1890, in the month of May the 4th, at twelve o'clock noon. Birth certificate of the female child Sura of the faith of Israel, born yesterday at 4 o'clock in the morning in the house of her parents from the town of Sculeni, the district of Sculeni, a legitimate child of Mr. Meir Moscu Goldin, 22 years old, merchant, and Cherna Mindla Goldin, 22 years old, homemaker, both of them residents of the town of Sculeni. This is a document based on the declaration made by the father in the presence the witnesses Jonos Leib, 32 year old, merchant, and Meir Volf Aronovich, 42 years old, self-employed, both residents of the town of Sculeni, that undersigned together with us the truth of the statement made by the father, and they approved this document after we read it back to them. This is also signed by us according to our law in the name of Gegoria Morescu the Mayor and the asst. Mayor, the head of the office of the town of Sculeni.

Born two days ago, the 20th of November 1905. Born in the house of her parents in the village of Bivolari, the daughter of Meir Goldner (age 37), storekeeper, and his wife Mina (age 37), homemaker. Both of them residing in Bivolari, and of the faith of Moses.


Based on the declaration made by the father, and witnesses Marus Soloman (age 31), businessman, and M. Tulburi (age 36), clerk, both residing inthis village, and signed below.


According to the laws as explained by the assistant Mayor.
